What are clear braces?

Montclair Orthodontics offers Clarity™ clear braces in addition to traditional braces. Clear braces are just as effective and comfortable as traditional braces, but they have a translucent appearance and are much less noticeable. Patients can enjoy a combination of metal and ceramic materials because these braces are simultaneously attractive and sturdy.

Montclair Orthodontics also offers Invisalign®, which uses clear, removable aligners that fit over the top of your teeth and gradually shift them into place without brackets or wires. 

What are the benefits of clear braces?

The main benefit of clear braces is that they’re much less noticeable. Plus, these braces are so sturdy that many providers recommend them to athletes playing sports. These semi-transparent braces won't stain, so patients don’t have to worry about feeling self-conscious. Clarity braces have a smooth, rounded shape that maximizes patient comfort.

Am I a candidate for clear braces?

To determine if you’re a candidate for clear braces, Dr. Watts examines your mouth, discusses your dental history, and reviews your treatment preferences and goals. He takes digital X-rays to create the most effective treatment plan. You might be a candidate for clear braces, traditional braces, mini-diamond braces, lingual braces, Damon braces (self-ligating braces), or Invisalign.

What should I expect when wearing clear braces?

Dr. Watt’s bonds clear brackets to your teeth, along with clear wires, where they remain in place throughout your orthodontic treatment. Simply attend routine visits at Montclair Orthodontics, allowing Dr. Watts to make gradual adjustments to the braces.

It’s important to keep your teeth and braces clean during treatment by brushing after meals as directed by Dr. Watts and flossing daily. Avoid chewing on sticky candy and hard objects, and call the Montclair Orthodontics office right away if your brackets or wires become damaged.

How long will I have to wear clear braces?

While the average length of time needed to complete clear braces treatment is about two years, individualized treatment plans vary from patient to patient. Dr. Watts lets you know what to expect. After completing treatment, you’ll need a permanent or removable retainer to keep your teeth in their new position.
